Yes, since our inception in ‘18 we have performed in-house conversions/vehicle builds. In ‘20, we started selling DIY conversion kits/parts packages under the ‘Shop Parts’ section of our website.
‘98-‘12 (996 – ‘98-‘04 and 997 – ‘05-‘12) Porsche 911 Carrera/CarreraS/Carrera4/Carrera4S coupes, cabrios, and targas are FULLY supported and can be converted w/ an LSx or LVx engine using CPE parts. ‘98-‘12 (986 – ‘98-‘04 and 987 – ‘05-‘12) Porsche Boxster/BoxsterS/Cayman/CaymanS are PARTIALLY supported and CPE can assist in converting such w/ an LSx or LVx engine.
We use the same manual transaxle that came w/ the car regardless of mileage (i.e. if convert an ‘05 Porsche CarreraS we will use the ‘05 Porsche CarreraS manual transaxle). Currently, automatic (tiptronic/PDK) transmissions are NOT supported however, said vehicle can be converted to a manual.
While our LSx kit is based around a Gen4 LS3 (58x engine), ANY Gen1/2/3 LSx engine including iron block variants (excluding ‘99-‘00 LQ4’s) will work. For PnP harness compatibility, we recommend converting any Gen1/2/3 engine to Gen4 spec (including changing the reluctor wheel/crank trigger out from 24x to 58x). Our LVx kit is based around a Gen5 LV3 and requires a multitude of custom parts due to packaging constraints.
Yes, post-conversion your vehicle will operate in the same manner it did before being converted w/ a working CEL, ABS/PSM system, PASM (if equipped), hot heat, ice cold A/C, power steering, and ALL creature comforts less cruise control which we are currently developing!
While a rotary lift is nice such is not required. A set of Quick Jacks, standard metric socket/hex set, and power tools (impact, ratchet, grinder, etc) is.
Somewhat open to interpretation, we’ve found these chassis’ and transmissions comfortably handle up to 500whp/500tq however have had customers put 900whp/900tq through the stock transaxle w/o issue. Ultimately we believe it’s not so much the hp/tq numbers but more so ones driving characteristics that determine whether one will live up to the task or not as we’ve seen low mileage cars w/ synchro/gear issues pre-conversion and high mileage cars w/ exceptionally healthy transaxles post-conversion. In short, a little mechanical sympathy goes a LONG way.
How much does a CPE in-house conversion cost? If purchasing a complete LSx->996/997 conversion kit from CPE budget for roughly $12,xxx shipped. If having CPE perform an in-house engine conversion, budget $45,000 turn-key for RWD/AWD cars utilizing a GMPP 495HP LS3 crate motor, our full catalog of CPE branded parts, replacement of a few “while you’re in there” items (i.e. – expansion tank, slave cylinder, etc), and transport to/from you (the customer).
Generally, customers will furnish their complete/non-running vehicle however on occasion we will advertise vehicles (rollers) we purchase via build allocations. Either way, we advertise a 3mo build window/turn around for our turn-key GMPP LSx engine conversion however if aero, suspension, wheels, paint, and more are added this time frame will be extended on a case by case basis.
In-house conversions require a 33% deposit upfront w/ the balance split into two installments which are paid as work is complete often times w/ the remainder due when the vehicle finishes on the dynograph (this ensures CPE is floating a marginal amount at any given time).
Do you warranty your work? Due to liability reasons we do NOT install USED engines/customer provided parts. Our work carries a THIRTY day workmanship guarantee (this ensures, you will not experience an issue related to installation issues via CPE) however does not cover part failures which are warranted by their respective manufacture.
Sure, you’ve done oil changes, replaced brakes, and performed routine engine maintenance however does the thought of a clutch job scare you? If so, this MAY not be something you want to DIY despite how easy we’ve made it!
